Annotation | Examines practice and principles of different types of rationing initiative which have been tried in recent years. The authors suggest that there is a case for specifying at a national level the range of services which the NHS should be providing, and in which no health authority would be allowed to avoid at least some level of service. Fair criteria will need to be established for rationing resources; the authors support need-related criteria - extent of ill-health and cost-effectiveness - as appropriate for rationing health care. |
