Annotation'Impaired judgement' is a diagnostic (and predictive) criterion for delirium, dementia and substance-related disorders, but its diagnosis and measurement are hampered by the absence of an operational definition. This article explores some models of judgement and their application to dementia, and concludes that judgement is not a discrete unitary function, but variously involves memory, perception, abstract and logical thought.
