Smoking and cognitive impairment a population-based study | Author(s) | Amasa B Ford, Zak Mefrouche, Robert B Friedland, Sara M Debanne |
Journal title | Journal of the American Geriatrics Society, vol 44, no 8, August 1996 |
Pages | pp 905-909 |
Keywords | Tobacco smoking ; Cognitive impairment ; Longitudinal surveys ; United States of America. |
Annotation | The study did not confirm the hypothesis that there is an inverse relationship between smoking and cognitive impairment. Four-year mortality over the survey period did not differ significantly between those older smokers and non-smokers, but smokers died at a relatively younger age and were more likely to die of diseases associated with smoking. |
