The elusive common ground — the politics of public opinion and healthcare reform | Author(s) | Michael Zis, Lawrence R Jacobs, Robert Y Shapiro |
Journal title | Generations,, Summer 1996 |
Publisher | American Society on Aging, Summer 1996 |
Pages | pp 7-12 |
Keywords | Health services ; Public opinion ; Social policy ; United States of America. |
Annotation | Americans' attitudes toward health care rest on a set of competing considerations about individual self-reliance, collective social responsibility, and dread of government involvement. The authors argue that targeted public appeals of reform opponents had the effect of activating Americans' reservations about reform, and consequently eroding the public's support. |
