Should the basic state pension be a contributory benefit? | Author(s) | Paul Johnson, Gary Stears |
Journal title | Fiscal Studies, vol 17, no 1, 1996 |
Pages | pp 105-112 |
Keywords | Pensions ; National insurance contributions ; Social policy. |
Annotation | The authors argue that while among current pensioners significant numbers are excluded from entitlement, because of incomplete insurance records, changes to the system mean that within 30 years, the degree of exclusion will be minimal. Background and contributory conditions, the pension rights of current pensioners, and what people retiring in 2020 - particularly women - can expect, are discussed. |
