Annotation | Presents findings from a Finnish study which examined the age distribution of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in order to find out at what age such patients need hospital resources most. In men, the need for hospital treatment increased after the age of 50, and in both men and women the highest number of admissions occurred after the age of 71. The implications of this disease for the health care system in an ageing society is discussed. |
