Annotation | The Retirement Income Inquiry was set up in 1994 to conduct a review of the arrangements for providing retirement income in the UK, including the roles of the individual, the employer and the state. This report discusses pensioners' income, social change and employment prospects; and assesses options for first and second tier pensions. It recommends that all pensioners should be guaranteed an adequate minimum retirement income; and that the State Earnings-Related Pensions Scheme should be phased out and replaced by a funded national Pension Scheme. |
