AnnotationThis research examined how female legal caregivers responded to difficulties of being a guardian. Their most frequent activities were visiting, providing emotional support, and some instrumental assistance. Guardians described their emotional relationships with their wards as either 'sympathetic', 'sad', 'challenged', or 'hostile'. Despite the hardships of their duties, most perceived benefits and expressed satisfaction with their role, which also shaped their perception of ageing and the conception of their own ageing.
