AnnotationThis article reports a survey by the Team for the Assessment of Psychiatric Services (TAPS) of all in-patients aged 70 and over resident in Claybury Hospital, North London, for more than 12 months. It examines the relationship between cognitive, behavioural and diagnostic factors in older in-patients, and identifies factors associated with their placement in specialised psychogeriatric care. Severe cognitive disability was not associated with type of care received. Issues related to measurement of cognitive disability across disparate diagnostic groups are discussed. (RH).
