Journal title | Ageing and Society, vol 15, part 1, March 1995 |
Pages | pp 37-58 |
Keywords | Bereavement ; Adjustment ; Widows ; Widowers. |
Annotation | Compares the results of two studies on the social life and well-being of older widows and widowers, and examines the similarities and differences in the way in which men and women have reorganised life following the loss of a partner. An unexpected finding was the significant effect of gender on life satisfaction, which shows that women have some advantage which enables them to achieve levels of well-being similar to those of men, despite their disadvantages in income and education. |
