Annotation | Five areas of concern are considered. First, there is the need for thoughtful retirement planning under all circumstances, in sickness or in health. Second, an awareness of the stages of retirement and the thinking which is especially helpful at each stage. The timing of retirement may not necessarily be optional or as previously planned, but is arbitrarily imposed by failing health. Alteration of retirement priorities may be required because of long-term illness. Finally, there are specific suggestions for the prudent planner for when long-term illness and retirement coincide.
