Annotation | The situation of older people (aged 50 and over) who have the HIV infection, or who are partners or carers of younger people with HIV is that they may be starting to face ageism from the wider society, and exclusion from HIV-related service provision. The report sets out the action needed to prevent a social crisis developing as people with HIV live longer and into old age. Recommendations are made for policy makers, service purchasers and providers, opinion formers and employers, according to the following five principles: a choice of services and of service providers should be offered; flexibility in provision of HIV-related services, especially where there are gaps; confidentiality; outreach and publicity work to reach those living in isolation; and meeting the needs of ethnic minority elders.
