Annotation | Two behaviour patterns observed in the sitting rooms of four homes for old people are reported: the rigid, formal arrangement of the furniture, and persistent occupation by residents of particular chairs. Possible functions of this territorial behaviour are suggested in terms of resident's apparent attempts to establish and sustain their personal and social identities in congregate institutional life. |
