Annotation | The development of a separate psychogeriatric assessment ward with associated back-up accommodation has had a considerable impact upon admission and separation rates compared with nationally derived norms. Nationally, differences appear between Scotland and England which reflect higher first admission rates within Scotland, and a higher mortality rate suggesting that more physically ill people come into psychiatric hospitals in Scotland.
