Annotation | The Swedish population is characterised by a growing proportion of old-age pensioners and a diminishing proportion of children. In 1950, 10% of the population was aged 65 and over. By 2000 this figure is expected to by 16%, with an increase of 40% for the over 80s. This article outlines changes in Sweden's social structure, and the responsibilities of public authorities - particularly for health care - in their goals for care of older people. (RH). |
