Environmental determinants of neighbourhood satisfaction among urban elderly men | Author(s) | Ronald L Jirovec, Mary Marmoll Jirovec, Raymond Bosse |
Journal title | The Gerontologist, vol 24, no 3, June 1984 |
Pages | pp 261-265 |
Keywords | Older men ; Life satisfaction ; Neighbourhoods, communities etc ; Urban areas ; United States of America. |
Annotation | A broad range of environmental characteristics are examined in this US study. Safety emerged as the major determinant of neighbourhood satisfaction, but its impact on neighbourhood satisfaction was lessened when considered in conjunction with housing satisfaction. Urban planners should assign priority to the development of neighbourhoods which foster a sense of security among their older residents while researchers try to untangle the complex interrelationships between environmental characteristics, housing satisfaction and neighbourhood satisfaction.
