Annotation | A sociodental investigation was conducted among 254 older people in Nottingham, a clinical assessment made of their dental treatment needs, and compared with their felt and expressed needs. 78% were judged as needing dental treatment, mainly prosthetic. Many older people mentioned a number of barriers in obtaining dental care; these included cost of treatment, fear of the dentist, immobility, and the feeling that they should not "bother" the dentist.
