Journal title | Reprinted from the Transactions of the Association of Industrial Medical Officers, vol V, no 1, [1955] |

Annotation | This paper was read at a meeting of the Association of Industrial Medical Officers on 25 March 1955. The author concludes that without a deeper understanding of the social (particularly family) pressures on older men to stay at work, and without an appreciation of the social and financial consequences of retirement, it is unlikely that wise policies for employment in later life, or for genuine security in old age, will be developed.
