Annotation | Learning will continue to remain a major national resource of immense value in the contexts of individual, community and national development in most African countries for a long time to come. For that reason, no segment of the population should ever be denied the right to learn. This paper aims to explore selected dimensions of learning in later life in Botswana, Nigeria and South Africa from the perspective of a contextual analysis. The analysis reveals some elements of similarity in policy frameworks adopted in the three countries, but with noticeable differences in terms of established structures, programmes, participation, achievements and challenges. Based on this observation, some recommendations are made that might be useful in working towards maximal and effective programme designs and implementation strategies that could help in enhancing later life learning.
