Annotation | Britain has become increasingly segregated by age over the last fifty years, such that there is little contact between people of different ages. This paper demonstrates a growing movement to tackle 'age apartheid' in the UK. It focuses on how older and younger people can come together through 'shared sites'. Examples from 20 organisations illustrate the four themes which are explored: shared care and play; shared housing and living; shared learning and work; and shared community spaces and activities. Given that there are some 75,000 care homes, nurseries and schools in the UK, there is plenty of scope for shared sites. |
