Keywords | Dementia ; Gay men ; Lesbians ; Needs [elderly] ; Services ; Health services. |
Annotation | Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transsexual (LGBT) people's needs are often overlooked in dementia care. Although health care providers have obligations to meet individuals' needs, the National Dementia Strategy (Department of Health, 2009) makes no specific reference to LGBT issues. In this article, the authors explain the problem. They report on feedback from a workshop run in collaboration with their hospital dementia team, the LGBT staff network, and the Alzheimer's Society and the LGBT Foundation. (RH) |
