Annotation | The post-war baby boomer generation is starting to reach retirement age; this brings challenges as to how society, and health and social care will respond. The Age Well project was set up by the Mental Health Foundation to explore how the baby boomers are likely to fare in making the transition to old age. The project had four aims. First, to identify the potential mental health risks baby boomers face and the life factors that may protect them and help them deal with the challenges of ageing. Second, to assess the role of mental well-being in ageing well and consider how it may be supported. Third, to highlight issues around attitudes to ageing and older people that may affect well-being. Lastly, to make recommendations for UK governments and other agencies to reflect the findings of this project, and how better to promote the mental health of this and future generations. The report is in three sections: health and well-being; family and relationships; and work, occupation, retirement and financial security. (RH). |
