AnnotationBlack and mixed ethnicity women are more than twice as likely as white women in the general population to be arrested. This report has been submitted to David Lammy's Review ahead of its launch, to highlight the overlooked inequalities experienced by many Black, Asian and minority ethnic women in the criminal justice system. It uses data from a wide range of sources, to ensure that all women from minority ethnic groups (including those of Muslim faith, 'mixed ethnic', Chinese, Gypsy, Roma and Travellers) are 'counted in', to support practical recommendations to improve their outcomes and the organisations that support them. Among the findings is reporting by the Muslim Women in Prison project on the disadvantages faced by Muslim women in prison without English language skills, particularly older women: they have had to rely on other prisoners to interpret for them.
