Annotation | Research carried out by the Australian Human Rights Commission (AHRC) has shown that age discrimination in the workplace is still rife in Australia, in spite of there being age discrimination legislation in place both at a national level (Age Discrimination Act 2004) and within states and territories. The need for legislation and the appointment of an official Age Discrimination Commissioner are indicative of the systemic nature of these ageist attitudes and behaviours and the pervasiveness of the problem.
