Annotation | The author highlights the longer term view that is required to address older people's needs for suitable housing. He draws on his experience of meetings and discussions with many older people through his regional and national roles in the ageing sector. There is a need to hear what older people are saying, that emphasises "rightsizing" rather than "downsizing"; to create self-supporting communities rather than building houses; to focus on care and repair services; and to ensure that all new homes are built to enable occupiers to age in place.
