Annotation | People with dementia can find hospital environments alarming and distressing, and the behaviour of some people with dementia can also be a cause of stress to staff and other patients and their relatives. Good design for people with dementia and delirium in acute settings can help to prevent or allay some of these problems. This book describes the design principles which will ensure that general hospitals and emergency departments are more comfortable and less stressful for people with dementia. It examines the policy context and outlines particular challenges relating to dementia-friendly design in hospital settings. It looks at key design features in detail and provides practical advice on changes to decor, fixtures and finishes which will benefit people with dementia. This book is one of a series published by the Dementia Services Development Centre (DSDC) to assist providers, architects, commissioners and managers to improve the design of buildings which are used by people with dementia.
