Annotation | Abbeyfield was founded in 1956 by Major Richard Carr-Gomme with the aim of alleviating loneliness in older people and improving their quality of life. This publication illustrates some of the mixed media art works and handicrafts created by Abbeyfield residents - some of whom live with dementia - that has been displayed in the Golden Gallery Art and Soul exhibition: dementia and art during 2016. The exhibition aimed to highlight the therapeutic benefits brought by art to older people, to provide a means of expression. The exhibition was displayed at: Beamish Museum (16th-20th May); Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery (13th June - 14th October); Nottingham City Arts (24th October - 6th November); Northern Ireland: The Curve Gallery at Bangor Carnegie Library (31st October - 4th November); and St Peter's House, St Albans (11th November).
