Annotation | This article briefly describes an innovative retirement village in the Netherlands known as De Hogeweyk, a secure care facility designed to look and feel like an all-inclusive village for older people in need of nursing care and particularly for those living with dementia. Residents are able to roam freely within the village and make use of shops and services. The village is maintained with real gardeners, bartenders, waiters and cashiers throughout the four-acre facility. (JL). |
