Annotation | This brief editorial examines what are the barriers to managing urinary incontinence (UI) in older nursing home residents. UI is a neglected geriatric syndrome in nursing homes, due to the widespread belief that it is a normal and inevitable part of ageing. However it is argued that doctors, nurses and administrators share a responsibility for improving residents' quality of life, but they would be more likely to take active steps if they felt such an investment was rewarded.
