Annotation | The Care Act 2014 puts new legal responsibilities on local authorities in England, and requires them to cooperate with local partners to meet them. The Department of Health (DH) wants to empower people who use care and support, their families, and carers, to be able to find help, and maintain their independence. Local authority information, advice and assessments become services in their own right, rather than routes to publicly-funded intensive care and support. The National Audit Office(NAO) analysed nine case study areas, to highlight the solutions each have developed to help them manage the changes required by the Act. The areas were: Bracknell Forest Council; Devon County Council; Durham County Council; Lincolnshire County Council; London Borough of Lambeth; Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council; Staffordshire County Council; Suffolk County Council; and Wakefield Council. This report has been prepared and published under Section 7Z(A) of the National Audit Act 1983, as introduced by the Local Audit and Accountability Act 2014. A summary report (6 pp) is also available.(RH). |
