Annotation | Articles in this special issue of Experimental Aging Research were presented at a symposium at Brandeis University, Massachusetts, in honour of Professor Arthur Wingfield. Topics range from basic speech perception to higher levels of complex interaction, reflecting Wingfield's areas of expertise. Subjects covered in the eight articles include: effects of vocal emotion on memory in younger and older adults; how spoken language comprehension is achieved by older listeners in difficult learning situations; issues concerning during word recognition in noise for older adults with hearing loss; age differences in language segmentation; effects of age, acoustic challenge and verbal working memory on recall of narrative speech; and social coordination in older adulthood.
