AnnotationThese findings describe a cross-disciplinary collaboration that aimed to bring 'smart' clothing, (modern functional textiles with assistive wearable technologies) to enhance well-being and the everyday lives of the market-neglected, rapidly growing 'Active Ageing' community. The focus was the development of a clothing 'layering system' for participation in walking comprising close-fitting base-layer garments (incorporating vital signs and activity monitoring), mid-layer insulating garments (with warming devices), and outer protective wear. Future product development by the wearable technology and 'smart' clothing industry has been informed by co-design and repeated evaluation by end users, walkers aged 60-75. (RH).
