AnnotationGrouchy Old Men? was a service improvement project run by the Mental Health Foundation (MHF) between 2008 and 2010, which aimed to find new ways to reach out to isolated older men, promote their mental health awareness, and reduce the risk of depression and suicide. This included piloting a training module to raise awareness about older men's mental health, aimed at staff working in health, social care and housing organisations. This pamphlet summarises the existing research and expertise on meeting older men's needs in reducing isolation, depression and possible suicide. The information will also be of interest to local community groups, voluntary sector organisations, commissioners of services (including mental health NHS Trusts), and statutory providers of day services.
