AnnotationThe author reports on work undertaken on a Health Education West Midlands Innovation Programme, which was established to explore the workforce aspects of integrated working in health and social care services for older people. Sponsored by the HR Director at Birmingham Community Health Trust and established in 2013, the programme is being evaluated by an external organisation, following completion of six pilot projects. The findings reveal some important learning about the barriers and enablers of effective integrated working, as well as the relationship between workforce initiatives, system leadership and organisational development. The programme has developed some new approaches and resources across several aspects of integrated working, which are now being scaled up across the West Midlands. (RH).
