AnnotationAge UK tracks a number of key indicators for "five pillars" relating to ageing and older people's issues in the UK: work and learning; money matters; travel and lifestyle (consumer issues); health and well-being; and home and care. This full report provides detailed information on the 33 indicator sources used. Age UK sets out the "key opportunities" that must not be missed in 2012 in relation to: equal and active citizens; tackling need and preventing poverty; competition and choice working for older consumers; essential services (i.e. public utilities, banking and public services); health, healthcare and well-being; dignity in care and support; lifetime homes and lifetime neighbourhoods; and global ageing, international aid and humanitarian emergencies. Although the Coalition Government is starting to tackle some of the challenges associated with ageing, Age UK states that action is needed to bring together "disparate policy threads". A framework is recommended in which individuals take responsibility for planning their later lives; and businesses, civil society, and local and central government recognise and respond as appropriate to older people's requirements and needs.
