AnnotationYork and Bradford are just two of over 80 places across the UK that are working towards becoming more dementia friendly. Dementia friendly cities (DFCs) have been defined as places where people with dementia are understood, respected and supported, and confident that they can contribute to community life. This evaluation found that active, meaningful engagement of people with dementia and their families is fundamental. Both cities demonstrated the importance of awareness raising, training and positive media coverage together with local grassroots community activity. All activity needs to be supported by strong strategic planning, commissioning and leadership if DFCs are to flourish and be sustainable. (NH).
