AnnotationPart 2 of this report describes a new way of inspecting, the Short Observational Framework for Inspection (SOFI) which was developed with Bradford University, and used by CSCI inspectors for the first time to capture people's experiences of care homes. Using the new technique, inspectors observed interactions between staff and people with dementia in 100 care homes across England. People with dementia are often unable to communicate easily. Part 1 looks at the quality of care for people living with dementia in care homes; whether a person's wishes and views are respected and taken into account; treatment by staff and how they communicate; and whether there are opportunities to relate to other people who are important to the individual with dementia.
