AnnotationThis article considers evidence in two recent independent, large-scale studies that have indicated that post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a risk factor for dementia among veteran groups. It notes the extent to which the explanations in these studies are supported by studies published since 2010. While the focus has been on ex-military personnel, it remains to be seen whether findings will be similar for women who have experienced non-military-related traumatic events. Treating PTSD in a timely fashion may help reduce the risk of later dementia. (RH).
