AnnotationThe authors use Jon Kabat-Zinn's 2003 definition of mindfulness, "awareness emerging from purposeful acts of paying attention in the present moment to the unfolding of experience in a nonjudgmental way". They report on Cardiff and Vale University Health Board's six-week Mindfulness for Wellbeing course, which was developed for clients of all ages using primary and secondary care mental health services. Their evaluations of the pilot group and two subsequent groups provide qualitative and quantitative support for the efficacy and acceptability of the course. Since the findings are based on a small sample size, recommendations are made about the structure and delivery of future courses, such as having "taster" pre-sessions and a post-course practice group. Feedback should be collected from both those withdrawing and completing the course. (RH).
