AnnotationThe authors report on a project which meets priority areas under the Carers Strategy (Wales) measure, and also contributes to 'Improved support for care givers', the fourth driver of '1000 lives +: Improving dementia care' (MHS Wales, 2011). They also explain how this Welsh model of provision and training was developed from a carer package developed in Sheffield in 1996. They report findings from the first phase of the pilot project with four caring and coping (C&C) groups in North Wales attended by 14 carers, who were invited to complete Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9), the Generalised Anxiety Questionnaire (GAD-7) and Zarit Burden Scale (ZBI). Qualitative findings from a questionnaire with open and closed questions are also presented. While carers' ability to cope with loss will have been helped, evaluation tools will need to be translated and validated in Welsh. (RH).
