Annotation | In Australia, some 10 to 15 percent of older people experience anxiety and depression, but prevalence can be as high as 50% for those living in residential aged care facilities (RACFs). This paper was the topic of a short presentation given by Mike Bird at the Faculty of the Psychology of Older People (FPOP) conference in 2015 in Shrewsbury. It describes a model of training from a clinical psychologist which would enable RACF staff to provide individual therapy to people manifesting mental health problems such as anxiety, depression and grief. It reflects on the experience and future demands for such training, in particular the benefits of having an in-house psychology team. (RH). |
