AnnotationThis article reports on the Active Aging Index, covering all 27 European Union countries and the United States. The Index covers diverse aspects of the active ageing experience, especially in regard to employment, participation in society, independent and healthy living and enabling environments for active ageing. Key findings are that the United States, Sweden, Denmark, Ireland, the UK and the Netherlands come at the top of the ranking, whereas most Eastern European countries and Greece come at the bottom. Women fare worse than men in most countries, identifying a need for a renewed social policy emphasis on reducing disparity in regard to active ageing.
