AnnotationThis brief article describes the implementation of an intergenerational music outreach model at the Institute for Music and Health (IMH) in Verbank, New York. The IMH has involved a wide range of participants including retirees, adults with dementia, learning disabled children and adults, school aged children, students, music therapists and professional musicians. A typical outreach session will take place in a nursing home or other senior centre. The goal of the model is that all participants have the opportunity to reach out and help another person through music, singing and dancing. Mutual benefits to old and young alike include developing a sense of well-being, acceptance of others, self-esteem, communication and social skills. The music-making is a bridge between the generations. (JL).
