Annotation | Societies in Europe are ageing under the impact of a "grand challenge", demographic change. People are living longer, but may be ageing differently, depending on their country's cultural and social traditions, diversity and inequalities. This Strategic Research Agenda for joint programming focuses on the kinds of research that can inform policymaking in Europe. It looks for the vision of a "society for people of all ages", emphasising not only the challenges but also the opportunities connected to longer lives. The goal is sustainable welfare that provides goods and services for a "good life" in ways that ensure younger generations will be able to satisfy their future needs, and that the needs of future generations are not compromised. Ultimate aims are quality of life, participation in societal welfare (objective well-being), and individual life satisfaction (subjective well-being) in a sustainable society for all ages. This publication presents the JPI's agenda for eleven research topics: quality of life, health and well-being; learning in later life; social and economic production; participation; ageing and place; a new labour market; integrating policy; inclusion and equity; welfare models; technology for living; and research infrastructure.
