Annotation | The pilot programme described in this article, known as `Bonding through Motion', was held over eight months in two Israeli cities. Its main goal was to create an experience of positive connection between older family members confined to the home and family members caring for them (usually spouses or adult children) while maintaining daily levels of functioning. This goal was achieved by infusing enjoyable content into recreation time whilst providing caregivers with knowledge and skills in the fields of both interpersonal communication and physical activity. Programme objectives included: providing emotional support for caregivers under stress; maintaining and/or improving physical functioning of the frail older person being cared for; and improving communication between carer and the older person being cared for. The experiment achieved a measure of success, and there are plans to expand the programme further throughout Israel. (JL). |
