AnnotationIntergenerational visual art relationships at shared sites have the potential to contribute to social sustainability. This article describes the results of a national survey in the United States that explored the role of visual art programming in promoting social sustainability at intergenerational shared sites. The study looked at facility demographics, art programming characteristics, and the sense of community perceived by 73 programme directors. The results of the survey indicate that the directors believed that their intergenerational programmes of which the visual arts were the largest area of participatory activity build a sense of community among the generations.
