AnnotationMuch has been written about the negative impact of sleep disturbance in those who care for people with dementia has been widely reported. The authors report results of a survey to assess the sleep quality of patients with dementia and their carers in a community-based sample of 33 patient-relative pairs in East Refrewshire. The Insomnia Severity Index (ISI) questionnaire, a self-report measure, was used. More than two-thirds of carers and almost half of the patients surveyed presented with symptoms of sleep disturbance, pointing to the need for routine assessment and treatment. (RH).
