Annotation | iN 2013, the Faculty for the Psychology of Older People (FPOP) produced a briefing paper for the Department of Health (DH) promoting a Stepped Care approach that focuses on meeting patient need - particularly those with dementia. The four steps of the Stepped Care model are: recognition (of a difficulty); low-intensity interventions; high-intensity interventions (protocol-led), and specialist interventions (individualised). This article considers behavioural difficulties (also referred to as challenging behaviour), in particular non-consensual or uninhibited sexual behaviour. The Stepped Care approach identifies an assessment focus, whereby each step identifies action points or interventions that the clinician can consider to meet patients' and carers' needs. The article reports on the workshop held to launch the briefing paper, and the discussion of case-scenario examples. (RH). |
