Annotation | This guest editorial reports from the International Psychogeriatric Association (IPA) presented at their International Congress held in the Hague, Netherlands, in September 2011. The report looked at the need to increase the accessibility of geriatric mental health services worldwide, including the need to build an integrated psychogeriatric service model and the need to boost research of mental health services into old age. A plan of action is proposed, including promotion of links with primary care, achieving a global recognition of geriatric psychiatry as a subspeciality and the building of a stronger leading role for the IPA.
