AnnotationThe Nuffield Council on Bioethics established a Working Party (chair, Professor Tony Hope) to examine the ethical issues raised by degenerative neurological diseases which result in dementia. This guide outlines the six-part ethical framework referred to in the main report: a "case-based" approach to ethical decisions; a belief about the nature of dementia; a belief about quality of life in dementia; promoting the interests both of the person with dementia and of carers (also professionals and care workers); acting in accordance with solidarity; and recognising personhood, identity and value.
